Matti and I only had a couple of hours, but we did have some fancy Japanese laminated steel to play with.
We made two blades, this is how mine ended up:
Profile ground with angle grinder:
Bevel ground on a cheap belt grinder (if you get one of these, the supplied belts work but wear out very quickly - better zirconia belts are available from ebay):
This is about where we were at the end of the two hours.
After annealing, drilling, and heat treat (heat to orange and oil quench, then temper for an hour at 200C)
Curly maple scales, brass pins, black Milliput expoxy putty between wood and steel:
Then sand to shape on the same belt grinder, and finish with Liberon Finishing Oil:Home | Artefacts| Forgework
